Recently while at Barnes and Noble I came across My Little Golden Book About George Washington by Lori H. Houran. I am always looking for good books for my children to teach them about history and family history. This looked like a particularly good one, so I bought it for my little ones.
The book came out pretty recently, just published in 2016. It is illustrated by Viviana Garofoli, and the pictures throughout are fun and engaging. The text is simple enough for children, but paints a good picture of the life of Washington. I like how it treats the Revolutionary War, simple enough but still getting across what a struggle it was. I particularly appreciate this as a DAR member showing my children why we celebrate our family who helped Washington. Overall it is a good book teaching about Washington and his era in our country’s history. The recommended age is two to five, but I think even children a bit older would appreciate it. It would be a good read in a classroom around Presidents’ Day.
